Blog Party

I heard about a blog party, checked it out, and thought it sounded like fun. So here I am, participating in the Dancing Barefoot Thoughts of Spring {blog party}. Thanks to Lynnette for hosting and if you're visiting for the first time - welcome and come again!

Lynnette suggested these questions (selecting one or all) as "ice breakers" for the party. Since I'm a sucker for lists like this, I decided to try "all" and see how it goes. And I'll try to keep it short! If you want to know more about me, then I would suggest clicking HERE - otherwise, have fun, poke around and generally make yourself at home! Blessings!

How would people describe your personality? (If they could only use ONE word.) Are they right?
Unique (yes, I think so - I have never fit in a box)

What celebrity/celebrities would create a “Star-Struck” feeling if you saw them in real life?
Example of me not fitting in the box: Ravi Zacharias

Who is your favorite blogger? Why?
Wow, that's a hard one...I'd have to pick three: Jessica (because we have similar book taste), Rachel (because I love her simplicity), and Melanie (the humor in her posts makes me laugh) - and a BONUS: my other blog: Little Brother Stories (all about the children's book my husband and I published last year!)

What is your comfort food/drink?
Probably pizza (Papa Murphy's or homemade) or anything sweet, and to drink? I love coffee (and coffee drinks), but my comfort drink would have to be rooibos hot tea (a hold over from when we lived in Africa)

Be brave – tell us something very random and weird about yourself.
I can't dive - I grew up with a pool, but diving terrified me. I learned how to do it one day, but by that night I was so scared to try it, I never dove again. I'm a life-long belly-flopper. Wow, that feels good to get that off my chest. {ah hem, just a bit of sarcasm there}

Do you have a strong desire to do something you’ve never done? What is it?
Write a book - not a children's book (which the hubby wrote), but a novel

Movies: Action, Drama, Romantic Comedy, Documentary, Comedy? What are your favorite genres?
Some action (Bourne Trilogy), some drama (Apollo 13) some romantic comedy (You've Got Mail, Sabrina, Father of the Bride), some docu-drama (From the Earth to the Moon), some comedy (The Three Amigos, Galaxy Quest) and then musicals (My Fair Lady, Sound of Music, Oklahoma, Fiddler on the Roof), chick-flicks (Mansfield Park, anything Jane Austen, The Importance of Being Earnest), Animated (The Incredibles, Robots, The Emperor's New Groove), and whatever category things like Star Wars and Oceans fit into...

Books: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Romance, Biographies, True Stories, Self-Help, Devotional/Study? What are your favorite types of reading material?
Fiction - like stuff by Alexander McCall Smith, Agatha Christie, etc., Apologetics stuff by Ravi Zacharias and Leadership books by John C. Maxwell - and did I mention Mashed Potatoes: A Little Brother Story? You should certainly check that one out! {wink}

Music: Funk, Rock, Country, Jazz, Classical, Film Score, Blues, Classic Rock, Crooner, Alternative, Heavy Metal, Techno? What are your favorite types?
Jazz primarily, Christmas music (not just at Christmas), stuff from the 80's, Classical, and apparently I'm also into lounge music (according to some online radio networks)

If you inherited a million dollars, what is the first thing you would do with your money?
Pay off the house

Name one weakness of yours (confession is good for the soul)
Pride

If you could live anywhere at all (and take all your loved ones with you), where would you go?
Shesh, I'd need three houses. One in Hawaii, one in New Zealand, and a lovely cottage in Scotland.

Strange Talent? Can you juggle basketballs, put your legs behind your head or some perform some other strange feat?
I can pull the "corners" of my tongue up in the front to make some kind of odd shape - I know others can do this, so if you can do it, you know what I'm talking about

What’s something you consider yourself to be good at? (Don’t worry, it’s not bragging, it’s acknowledging a God given gift)
Editing other people's work - but not necessarily my own. Go figure.

What is one of your favorite things to catch a whiff of?
Lavender or pine trees

When you leave a social gathering, do you wish: You would have talked more or You would have talked less?
Talked less - I don't think I talk that much, but I always feel like I should have kept my mouth shut more. It's something I usually ask the hubby after we've left, "Did I say anything I shouldn't have?"

If money wasn’t a factor, what stores would you shop in?
Pottery Barn and Williams-Sonoma - but the reality is that I would still be at Target, doing the {happy dance} over finding a great deal in the clearance section

What is your greatest fear?
Snakes - oh, or did you mean something deeper than that? Then I would say getting to the end of my life and not having made an eternal difference in someones life. Failing to be Jesus to those around me and point people to Him.

What is your greatest accomplishment?
Graduating college?? Getting a job?? Traveling the world?? Marrying my best friend?? I think it would be something like following where the Lord led us, and coming back again, even when people thought we were crazy both for going and for coming back. My greatest accomplishment is not about me, it's about Him and trying to follow His Will for my life.

What are your favorite animals?
Big dogs, giraffes, polar bears and great white sharks

Are you a hopeless romantic?
Ask me that 15 years ago and I would have said yes. Ask me that now (after almost 11 years of marriage) and I would say no...I am a hopeless comedian and am blessed to be married to a man who keeps me laughing. Humor trumps romance for me almost every time.

What movie or book character can you most relate to?
Moses - I feel like every time I say, "but Lord, I can't..." He leads me that way and shows me that it's not about me, it's about trusting and following Him, even when I feel inadequate for the job at hand.

  1. You've Got Mail is one of my favorites. And I adore that last picture of you two. If my husband tried that, he would probably throw out his back. Haha.

  2. I love the way you write, that you love the Lord, Jane Austen too! It was nice to meet you. I'll be sure to stop back and make myself at home. You write beautifully.

  9. Hi Carrie, Hopping over for Lynnette's Blog Party. That picture is beyond hilarious, I had to go read the post :). I like Rachel's blog, too just subscribed to it in the last couple of months.

I, too, am a coffee snob, though we have found some good stuff at World Market, and you get some free every now and then {though we have to plan, because it's quite a drive for us}.

I love your sense of humor...it was fun looking around your blog!

  10. Hi! I'm stopping by from Lynnette's blog party. I had so much fun reading your post. The picture of you in the bag is so funny! I had to click over and get the story behind it. You and your husband sound like lots of fun!

  11. Loved the post. Was reminded in a dream last night that it is all about Him and not about me. Going to go read the back story on the pic.

  12. Carrie,
I can tell right off the bat - you are a blast to be around. You are an interesting combination of ... stuff. Just like your header. Coffee, flowers, vintage door knob, thrilled over a pile of books, and... and... paper clips? I LOVE IT!

Ravi Z. is a great teacher. Much of what he says goes over my head - I think I have selective ADD. If I have to concentrate, and I'm not getting it (or I'm not that interested in it), I just choose to think of something else. ha!

Thanks for joining in the blog party! That last picture is awesome! Looks like you and hubby are secure for life. You have FUN together! Who needs romance when you have laughter? (Plus laughter is sort of romantic, don't you think?)

Have fun hopping around meeting new chums!

  13. I cannot dive either and grew up with a pool...and swim all summer. Life long belly flopper here, too. I can fold my tongue like a taco...is that what you mean?

Oh my word with the picture of you in the bag...so cute and funny! =)

Good for you publishing a book...I'm working on one myself.

    Nice to meet you!
