Home to Holly Springs by Jan Karon
As you might remember from a couple of weeks ago, I read Father Tim Book #2 and gave it an iffy review. When I went to my bookshelf, I discovered that I had Book #1 but had never gotten around to reading it, so I threw it next to the bed with very low expectations. Truth be told, I enjoyed Home to Holly Springs (set in Mississippi and Memphis) much more than I did In the Company of Others (which takes place in Ireland). Holly Springs had more similarities to the Mitford series (the characters and relationships), but it still can't hold a candle to Mitford (in my humble opinion).
I finished The Pirate Hunter (Zacks) and Hypatia (Kingsley) and read Through My Eyes by Tim Tebow. Now I've started The Three Legions, the trilogy beginning with Eagle of the Ninth (Sutcliff) and am working my way through Flight of Passage (Rinker Buck)...because it makes my husband happy when I read his airplane books. :)
ReplyDeleteI just finished The Saturday Big Tent Wedding Party by Alexander McCall Smith. I'm enjoying 2 Noel Streatfeild books that I never read as a child -- I read Family Shoes last week and I just started the sequel, New Shoes. (I love being able to get out of print books through Amazon's used book sellers or half.com! : ) )
ReplyDeleteI'm reading a book called Bitter is the New Black. It's really not that good. The main character is kind of insufferable. BUT, she just lost her job so I'm hoping one of two things happens: 1. the rough time transforms her into a more humble, likable person 2. the rough time doesn't transform her and I can mock her discomfort. (I know I'm petty.)

ReplyDeleteSandyB. - Whenever I hear someone mention Noel Streatfeild, I always think of the line from "You've Got Mail" - do you know the one I'm talking about?
Molly - Don't you hate it when a book that you're hoping will be good turns out to be not that good? What a bummer. :-(
