Friday $avings: Grocery & Diet Update

First of all, I have to say a huge THANK YOU to all you kind, frugal shopppers out there in the blogging world (and FB world) who shared some great tips and hints for working within my food restrictions and grocery budget. If you want to read the original blog post that triggered all the help, go HERE.

I'd like to highlight two people who commented on my post last week. They were encouraging and have some great blogs and ideas and are very real. Trixie from Farm Home Life and Weight Loss Surgery Blog was an inspiration because she's eating healthy on a small budget and losing weight. Way to go Trixie!

Thanks to Jennifer from Getting Ahead and Our Suburban Homestead for telling me to get myself back to the store to buy more Tyson chicken! After I read Jennifer's comment, I headed back down to the grocery to purchase what they had left and came home with $47 worth of chicken (Tyson All Natural Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts - Family Pack) for $21. According to my receipt, I save $25.03 with the in-store sale. WHOO HOO!!

Diet Update: We've completed Stage 1 of the South Beach Diet and Peter has dropped 12 lbs. in the last two weeks. Although last week I saw a number on the scale that thrilled me - then that number left and I went back up by about 3.5 lbs. Discouraging indeed. However, I'm keeping at it and Peter says that I could be building muscle (which weighs more) as I'm now faithfully walking on the treadmill at higher speeds and inclines. I hope he's right! :-) I do know that I feel better and I'm eating better and I'm not doing the carb/sugar cravings as much, so that right there is progress. I'm also drinking a lot more water and I don't miss the sugary pops or juices like I thought I would. So far, so good and I would recommend this program if you struggle with weight. I'm a snacker by nature, and when I am allowed to snack between meals, I am a happy person. The only change is that I now snack on a couple of spoonfuls of peanut butter or a string cheese stick instead of a bunch of crackers or a chocolate covered granola bar. It's just a few simple changes, but it's making a difference.

I don't have a "Before" to show you, but you'll just have to take my word for it that the contents of our fridge have changed a LOT. Now you see lean beef, eggs, fresh veggies, lots of cheese, half and half (no, it's not low fat, but it's better than the heavy whipping cream we used to use in our coffee!), sugar-free Jello pudding with diet approved Cool-Whip, and more.

Have a great week-end everyone!

  1. We are doing the same!

Keep up the good work and stay with it. Last time I did this I lost 50 pounds (this was pre-baby). My hubby followed along and he dropped it faster than me. My doc said men always start losing faster than women. You'll catch up..no worries!
