Wednesday Book Recommendation

Today I'm short on time, so my recommendation is short and sweet. If you haven't picked up a copy (my copies are old) of Cheaper by the Dozen and/or it's sequel, Belles on their Toes by Frank G. Gilbreth Jr. and Ernestine Gilbreth Carey - do so at once! I'm not talking about the movie that came out a few years ago with Steve Martin, or even the older versions with Clifton Webb and Myrna Loy...I'm talking about the original books about the Gilbreth family.

I came across my copy of Cheaper by the Dozen when we were visiting friends in Wisconsin and they were taking us on a tour of their town. The tour included an antique store - which, in all honesty, I wasn't that excited about. Until I found a corner of the store with books. Loads of books. Old books. For cheap. I'm. In. Love. I picked up Cheaper by the Dozen for $3 and after I read it, I quickly did a search on Amazon and Abebooks for the sequel. Both were worth the money...so at the very least, please go to the library and see if they have these delightful true-life stories! Otherwise, invest in your own copies - they are both available through Amazon.

Gift Idea: For a a unique birthday/Christmas gift, give one or both of the books and the set of original movies. I don't know about you, but I would love a gift like that! :-) Happy Reading!

Linked to the Booking It post over at Life as MOM - thanks for hosting this delightful party Jessica!

All Amazon links are part of the Amazon Associates program, but all opinions are my own.

  1. Now I feel silly. I didn't even realize the movies were based on books...but I'm certain the books are far better than the movies. It seems that's almost always the case. Although I did think the movies were wonderful anyway.

I have to agree with you, though. I think that would be a lovely gift!

  3. One of my very favorite books! I think of it often when I need to work on time management and crowd control around here.

A reminder: there are more than 400,000 words in the English language, please use them wisely.
