Wednesday Book Recommendation

I had already written up a book recommendation and then changed my mind about recommending it - so am starting over. Which means that my brain is a bit fried and this is probably going to be one of the shortest WBR's yet - which may not be a bad thing! Today's book recommendation is A Girl of the Limberlost by Gene Stratton Porter.

I first read this book in junior high and loved it - but when I read it as adult I think I loved it more. It's the story of a girl called Elnora who has a love for nature and a gift for capturing expensive specimens of moths which allowed her to pay for her high school education. With a father who is dead and a cold and unloving mother, Elnora finds friendship with The Bird Woman, Margaret, Wesley and Billy who assist with her education and growth into womanhood. Eventually Elnora makes peace with her mother and the two become close - and that's just the first half of the book! In the second half Elnora is all grown up and becomes friends with Angel and Freckles (who have their own book), Edith, Henderson, and Philip - the love interest.

It's certainly worth checking out from the library, searching your used bookstore for, or buying from Amazon. I have read it through several times and enjoy it more with each read through. And with that, I'm stopping. I have so much that needs to be done today, so I'm off! Happy Reading!

All Amazon links are part of the Amazon Associates program, but the opinions are my own.
