Booking It 2011

I had oodles of fun Booking It last year with Jessica over at Life as MOM, and I was thrilled to hear that she would be hosting again - with a twist! If you want all the details of how Jessica has organized Booking It 2011, then by all means, please click HERE. If you want the gist - you can select her reading plan (or part of her reading plan, or one book from her reading plan) or create your own plan and then she will have two days set aside each month (the 10th and 11th) to discuss and link up. I intend to do a little of both.

From Jessica's list of books I have selected the following to add to my 2011 Reading Plan:

1. Mansfield Park by Jane Austen (probably my favorite Austen novel)
2. The Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan (know the story, never read it)
3. The Help by Kathryn Stockett (on my list for several months)
4. The Wingfeather Books (#1, 2, 3) by Andrew Peterson
In addition to these books from her list, I have added a few of my own that I would like to read this year, some serious, one new, and several classics, including:

5. Who Made God? by Zacharias/Geisler (started in 2010, but didn't finish)
6. Is Your Church Ready? by Ravi Zacharias/Norman Geisler
8. Kim by Rudyard Kipling
9. The Innocents Abroad by Mark Twain
10. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson
11. Agnes Grey by Anne Bronte
12. Work and Beginning Again by Louisa M. Alcott (I have a very old copy of this)
One of the things I love about Booking It is that it forces me to go to my own bookshelves and select books that have long held a spot, but have never been read. I love books and they are my weakness, but sometimes I find that it's the getting, not the reading, that excites me. I'm not a library girl - I love coming home with a bag of books from the used book shop or finding an Amazon package on my front stoop. However, what I found by Booking It in 2010 was that there were some books that were taking up space on my shelves that really weren't worth having. After reading them for Booking It, they went out to the used book store and my shelves had room for new (and better) books! Hooray for book space!

Are you planning on Booking It this year? I'd love to hear your list of books or "must reads". And if you so desire, join up with Jessica and the rest of us over at Life as MOM each month - starting today! It's lots of fun and there are many good recommendations to be had, which was how I found The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society last year - a very pleasant surprise. Happy Reading! *Amazon links part of the Amazon Associates program.

  7. A great looking list! Agnes Grey is a lovely book, I am nearly finished reading all the Bronte books - I started a bit of a binge on them last year! I even read The Life of Charlotte Bronte by Elizabeth Gaskell. I also read Lorna Doone - a beautiful book!
