Grab Your Popcorn

I can think of two things that you need to know:

1) We're cheap when it comes to spending money on things like movies
2) We hadn't stepped foot in a movie theater in almost 2 years before this last week (see #1)

While we were in Florida, Peter's family suggested that we all go see a movie. We ended up at Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, while my father-in-law took our nephew and sister-in-law to a more kid-friendly film. After ordering two adult tickets at the window, I picked my jaw up off the floor and handed the man $20 - no change. The movie was fine, but I had a harder time enjoying it knowing that I could have held out for a few months and rented it from Redbox for $1 (or free with a code) and watched it in the comfort of my own home with $19 still in my pocket.

But since the outrageous cost of movie tickets isn't actually the point of this post, I shall move on.

A few months ago we heard about a film called Waiting for "Superman" - a documentary about public (a.k.a. government) schools. On Saturday night we were in a bit of a nnyaa-sluff post-vacation mode and decided to pick up a movie at Redbox (using a freebie code of course). It was a toss-up between Waiting for "Superman" and The King's Speech, but in the end, WfS won out.

I'm not going to tell you about the movie (you can watch the trailer below), but I will tell you this: It's worth the time to watch it. The same man who made Al Gore's film, An Inconvenient Truth (i.e. not a political conservative), documented what's going on in public schools all around the country and it was stunning. Do you need step-by-step instructions?

1) Go find a Redbox (http://www.redbox.com/)
2) If you haven't rented from Redbox before, use the code "DVDONME" for a free rental
3) Go home and gather your favorite snacks (skipping the $5.75 movie theater Cokes!)
4) Pop Waiting for "Superman" in your DVD player
5) Make sure you watched the deleted scenes in the extras - they are as good as the film itself
