Little Bites {May}

Little Bites Tip of the Month: Don't Give Up

Three years ago I started applying, with no success, for jobs. In January 2011, I landed a job through a friend, which I've been working for the last 463 days (but who's counting?). In March, we decided that it was time for me to begin looking for a job that would, at a minimum, have better hours, and ideally would give me the opportunity to use my natural gifts and abilities. It was around the same time that I started actively using Twitter - thanks, in part, to my new-to-me smart phone. One week ago, I tweeted that I would be spending my day off doing laundry and sending out resumes, and then ... I got a reply tweet. A phone meeting was set up, followed by more emails, and that's when possibilities began to take shape - possibilities that made me do the {happy dance}. As of right now, I don't know when (or if) anything will come of these ideas, but it really doesn't matter, because it has revived my dreams and reminded me to never give up. And that's my tip of the month for you - if you're discouraged (as I was), reach out, share your dreams, and never give up. You never know what's around the bend in the road ...

Little Bites {April} Update
1. Become computer-free on Saturday AND Sunday (unless I need to look up a recipe)
I stuck to Sunday (99% of the time), but skipping Saturday just didn't happen - and I'm okay with that.

2. One day a week - pick jobs to apply for and submit resume
I sent out multiple resumes and cover letters, and I networked through family and Twitter.

3. Spend one day a week following up on two book ideas that are swimming around in my brain
I didn't do this at all. As the ideas have come to me, I do keep them in a small notebook next to the computer, but I haven't actively worked on a book idea.

4. Set up three estimates for getting a new roof on the PH
We got one roofing estimate and scheduled a second, but now we're debating (again) how much money we want to put into something that we (eventually) want to tear down. TBD.

5. Begin sorting through the stuff in the basement
Nothing removed from the basement, but I did go through more stuff upstairs and the pile continues to grow for our upcoming yard sale.

Little Bites Goals {May}
1. Go up in the attic and see what's stored there - purge whatever can be purged
2. Make a final decision about the PH roof/project
3. Make daily quiet time a priority over Internet and other distractions
4. Spend some time learning about social media and promoting Mashed Potatoes
5. Set a date for a family yard sale

May will be a bit of a transition month for us as I stop working, find a schedule that will keep me on track, and attempt to figure out what's next. We have a nephew graduating from high school and Peter will be celebrating a birthday and continuing to adjust to his new job, so with all the changes, I want to aim for growth, but also take time to enjoy the moment.

What are YOUR goals for May?
I'd love to hear about them!

  1. How awesome about the reply tweet. Social media can be our friend! :)

    I am always amazed at the connections I make in church. Most of my jobs and volunteer opportunities have stemmed from fellow members of the congregation. God certainly does have a hand in our lives. :)
